Decorative hardware for a small kitchen

Posted on September 3rd, 2009 by in Decorative Cabinet Hardware

Any kitchen that is less than 150sq feet is defined by the National Kitchen and Bath Association  as a small kitchen. Small kitchens need extra attention so as to create the illusion of a large space. In order to do that there are companies that handle mostly this kind of work or you can just follow some basic guidelines. In a small kitchen area size matters, so it might not be wise to crowd the place with large appliances. Look for space saving refrigerators, stoves and ovens. At the same time it might be a good idea to have bright lighting in a lightly colored surroundings. This will give the room  an airy and spacious look. Laying out the tiles on the kitchen floor diagonally will give the  room a larger look. Kitchen islands are a good way to maximize storage and also usethe space as a table or eat-in area.
Cabinets and other storage areas in the kitchen are what meet the eye first. To make

sure that  these do not give the room a cramped look it might be good to have doors made of frosted or other glass. Add small but elegant hardware to the cabinets so as to not diminish the size of the room. Pick from a variety of materials like glass, gemstone, acrylic, ceramic or even handblown glass. There are some companies like the Carol Beachs which deal with metal and ceramic or colored resin knobs and pulls. If you want an antique look then there are companies that produce antique
reproduction glass hardware for your cabinets.
